Jarritos: Best non-alcoholic Party Drinks
College parties are among my fondest memories of my college life. In fact, writing this brings me nostalgia. My fondest memories our party together would be our last batch party, which happened after a grand gala night, our graduation ball. I never really believed sodas could do much aside from being a casual drink, until I tried Mexican soda in one of the parties we attended and since then, I have loved it. So, in our last party as fresh college graduates, I made sure that we would have Mexican soda in our celebration, aside from the usual spirits and cocktails we usually prepared.
So, after our white-tie party together with our college mentors at a posh hotel in the metro commencing with fun group presentations, recognition and a hearty dinner buffet, we finally said our last goodbyes and good nights to our mentors. We then stripped ourselves off our gowns and suits, and then changed to party clothes. It was already 10 o’clock in the evening, but the night is just young. We were giggling because we have planned for this party in our last day in college. This time, instead of hitting a local dance club like we normally would, we arranged a party in one of my classmate’s house, which was located at a city in the south that I have rarely been into.
Finally, we arrived at the scene, bringing everything we needed for the party. The boys brought out huge speakers to pump up the bass of our music, and they brought to the table every hip hop, house and club music that were mainstream in the radio at that time.
Then the girls prepared what we would collectively call “pica pica”, or fried finger foods that we would eat to go with the drinks we brought. Lastly, no party would be complete without drinks. Our batch had varying degrees of alcohol tolerance, so we brought along liquor for the boys, while we mixed up non-alcoholic cocktails for the girls with some ingredients and Mexican soda. I thought I was the only one in the batch who had a penchant for Mexican soda, but I was surprised that they, too, love it!
As soon as everything was set out, we turned off the lights and started our party at 11 pm. We danced heavily to the music, and because we all enjoyed each others company, all our dance floor inhibitions were gone. We spent a whole night of partying, grooving to the latest tunes that one of our classmates played, while others prepared more food and drinks. It felt like time has stood still because we partied the night away.
Some danced until they were sober, while others rested early since too much drink subdued their energy. We woke up in the morning with a nice view of a beach, which was something we didn’t expect as we arrived at my classmate’s house two hours before midnight.
After the celebration, we bid our last goodbye as batch mates, as we swore to become each others brothers and sisters as we embark on a new life beyond college. After this event, I have never experienced the same intense party ever again and I can only hope that we find another time to party now that we have become professionals.
